Day 1: Let Your Rain (Word) to Shower Our Hearts
Today is my first day of fasting from social media: Facebook and Instagram. The reason why I'm fasting Facebook especially is because it has been affecting me mentally and spiritually. The constant scrolling and feeding my mind with mindless things as well as worrying news isn't doing me any good. Also I tend to compare myself to what others are doing or are achieving and it's not healthy. I am too affected by what people do or how they would view me. It's making me sick. So I know i have to get away from social medias in order to clear out the clutter in my mind to focus on God and His Word. I yearn to draw near to Him in this season of MCO. I want to know more of Him so that my love for Him will grow. I want Him. I don't want to be away anymore because I'm a scared little child and I am truly nothing without God.
I am glad Yi Yeen agreed to be my fasting partner because I'm not sure I can do it alone and God said it's better to be in 2 or 3 so here it is. We are following a bible reading plan called Lenten and mostly will be venturing into the book of Jeremiah. I am still not too sure how to do it but may God reveal more about Him through our readings. We plan to do this till Easter which is 13 days but might extend if we see the need to it.
I will be updating my thoughts and notes about the daily bible reading here. Things that draw my attention more. The message. Etc.
Matthew 4:1-17
Satan tempt Jesus to turn stones into bread in order to satiate His hunger. It seems a logical thing to do and Jesus definitely has the power to do it. But He answered with God's Word that men shall live on the Word of God. Why? Probably because by agreeing with Satan, He is choosing to defy God? Like how Eve had agreed to Satan in taking the apple because she thought it would satisfy herself, but in the end broken relationships between God and among one another happened. So Jesus was not doing what Eve had done. He chose God. It is a choice.
After that Satan tempted Jesus again by enticing Him to test God. Satan even quoted Scriptures. So Satan has the ability to quote Scriptures, certain parts to put believers in confusion. So it is very important to know the whole Bible, to know His Word. Jesus then quoted another part of Bible which put Satan back in his place. The Word of God is Jesus' Sword! Another thing that caught my eyes. The Devil took Jesus to the holy city. And to the temple. I guess even in holy places, Satan is there. It is truly only the Word of God that is our protection, not places.
The final temptation is Satan offering the world to Jesus. It is a bit funny for him to do that because Jesus is the Creator of the World. He does not need to be offered because He through the Father is already the conqueror. I think it reflects back to us. Like..sometimes we feel afraid or we are greedy, we just accept the easy way or the more right in our face solution without truly understanding the consequences. We should not be afraid but to worship God because as His child, we are already given the world, the freedom in Christ.
Isaiah 55:1-13
I particularly like the part where it says God's Word is like rain. When it comes down, it will definitely yield something. So we should pray to be so thirsty for His Word that more rain will pour in our hearts, yielding fruits. Seek God while he may be found. He has promised to give mercy and also to provide us of what we need and we will be satisfied.
